Back to a metrical and rhyming poem for your pleasure. Do read it aloud and let me know how you like it, my friend.

Heaven in Little Things

A little thing is not a little thing,
When it’s something that makes our heart sing,
If it quietly makes our soul take wing,
And makes a purposeless life worth living.

You’ll agree if you’re a little like me,
I am confident my meaning you’ll see,
Through these small scenes I will relate to thee,
All I need from you is your company.

Take, for example, when we come across,
Perfect grouting, tiles making a neat cross,
Or a sign we see at just the right spot,
Helping us as if it had read our thought.

The pleasure of grammatical writing,
The joy of impeccable road marking,
The delight of cambered roads and clear drains,
Turning circles that end cul-de-sac lanes.

Perfect footpath on pristine tree-lined street,
Elegant people, well-dressed and ever so neat,
Passing strangers who wish us a nice day,
Pedestrians getting the right of way.

A finely printed book, bound handsomely,
Shiny lined up shoes, a perfect movie,
A splendid line, a touching melody,
A lovely teapot or faultless coffee.

Oiled hinges, windows that perfectly close,
Neatly tucked beds, hangers marching in rows,
Dry and wet bathroom areas set apart,
Thoughtfulness and care that come from the heart.

Doors shut gently, replies without delay,
Books returned before they go astray,
Foreign names spelt right and pronounced straight,
Friends who remember our every trait.

When I see quality in a small scene,
I renew a pledge that I deeply mean,
I’ll have the right attitude till I last,
I tell the fine, cultured souls of the past.

I say, gentle friends, don’t fret, I’m here for you,
Care is civilisation, I feel too,
I’ll attend to these little things and more,
I won’t let you down, or myself, be sure.
