A poem

Read it aloud, slowly as you go.
My Friend
What would my life be without you, my friend?
My cheerleader in triumph and success,
My warm solace in sickness and distress,
Companion at life’s every bend.
You surely know me better than I do,
The mirror to my beauty and beast,
To the complete me so loyal and true,
A witness to my life’s fleeting feast.
When did friendship strike, or did it creep up?
With play, study, work, kids, or as neighbour?
Our bond stronger with each tiff and make-up,
All the times together that we savour.
What do you mean to me, my dost, my mate?
Gushing words, this wonder cannot translate,
I just know and feel your love in my heart,
To be there for you is my destined part.
With time I may lose you in life’s fray,
But your fragrance and colour are now mine,
You could drift far from me or pass away,
Yet you’ll dance in the corners of my mind.
